If your company has a Twitter account, one of the things that you should do is personalize the background of your Twitter profile.  The space on the sides of your Twitter feed is prime real estate to share your personality and/or other social media accounts with users who visit your profile.  Did you know that you have 4 options when it comes to personalizing the background of your Twitter profile? Your options include: 1) pick a premade theme, 2) customize your background with a favorite photo/image, 3) choose a pre-set background image from a third party, or 4) create your own background using design software.

Pick a Premade Theme from Twitter.com

Twitter gives users the ability to choose 1 of 19 premade themes for profile backgrounds.  Here’s how you access the free premade themes:

  • Log into your Twitter account
  • Click on the gear icon (at the top right hand corner of the page) to access your account settings
  • Click on ‘Design’ on the sidebar to access design options
  • Choose a premade theme by clicking on one of the thumbnail pictures
  • Click on the ‘save changes’ button at the bottom of the Design screen to save your changes
  • Note: if you don’t see a premade theme that you like, you can also go to Themeleon to choose one of many background patterns or color palettes

  • Click on ‘Design’ on the sidebar to access design options
  • Scroll down the page to see the ‘Customize your own’ section of the Design page
  • Click on the ‘Change background’ button to upload your image (maximum file size is 2MB)
  • Once your image has been uploaded, you can choose to 1) tile background, 2) change the background position, 3) change the background color (that will show below a smaller image), 4) change the link color, and 5) change the overlay (transparent) color.

Choose a Preset Background From a Third Party Provider

If you don’t have a favorite photo/image to use as your profile background, you can use an image from a third party provider like Twitrcovers or Twitcover.
