How tech-savvy are your kids?   Take a look around and you will see kids using tablets in the classroom, at home, and on-the-go in the family car or at activities.  Simply put, tablets are being used everywhere and anywhere and have become a very popular device with kids.  When it comes to the topic of tablets and kids, researchers have studied adoption rates, how tablets are being used by kids, content consumption habits, and have looked at which apps have been successfully targeted at kids. Infographics are a great way to summarize data and here are a few of the key facts that stood out in a recent infographic called ‘Tablet and Kids: The Future Consumer”:

  • 58% of children ages 12 and under who live in tablet-owning households use the devices.
  • On average each iPad contains 8 apps specifically for kids.
  • Playing downloaded games is the #1 way that kids use tablets.
  • As of 2012, there are 700 apps available on iTunes for children.

Having kids, I know first-hand how much they love to use our iPad and tablet to play games (especially Angry Birds Star Wars, Bad Piggies, Bike Baron, Despicable Me – Minion Rush) and look up information about topics they want to learn more about.  Before downloading an app, parents can find more information about an app at Google Play or iTunes  (including description, reviews, new features, number of installs, content rating etc.) to help make an informed decision.
