Google just released version 2.0 of the Gmail app for iPhone and iPad.  Is it time to stop using the native email app in iOS?  You’ve always been able to sync your Gmail via Google Sync or just via IMAP.   This allowed your email to flow into your native email on an iPhone or iPad.  However, if you have a Google account or Google Apps for Business account, you may want to consider switching.  Here are a few reasons why:

  • Search Function –   Yes, Google is good at it. It will also predict results.  If you want to find old emails quickly, the Gmail app will get the job done.
  • Browser interface – If you like the Gmail browser interface, the Gmail iOS app will be a comfortable experience for you.  Stars, labels and other features unique to Gmail are there.  No translation required.  It also has a fresh new look.
  • Switch between multiple Google accounts –  This has been available in Android for some time and is a welcome feature to iOS.  You can switch between up to 5 accounts.
  • Functionality – It allows you to respond to Google Calendar invites.

Download it now from the App Store.  Your friends or business colleagues using an Android smartphone will have less to brag about.
